Bho na h-ochdadan (from the eighties)

As a person from eighties, I grew up on video games. With the explosion of video game popularity particularly with the advent of youtube and twitch in recent years. It was inevitable that I joined the community.

Hopefully of sufficient quality to enlighten, educate and entertain.

For the love of stories

So we are going to start this series off with my current favourite game. Assassin's Creed Odyssey by Ubisoft.

The recent Assassin's Creed games. Particularly Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla have included a discovery tour option alongside the games. This allows players to learn the historical contexts for each of the games. As the games world's map is a fairly accurate historical representation of the real geographical areas. The developers use these assets to give an educational context to the games. In the case of Origins this is around the pyramids and Alexandria. Odyssey shows the greek world in the time when the conflict between Sparta and Athens occurred.

We will get to Valhalla eventually.

To give even more historical context surrounding the Odyssey title I am also going to give a link to Herodotus' Histories on Librivox. Where he recounts the stories of the Persian attempted invasion of what is now Greece :

As we meet him later on in the story it is useful to here from the historians own words what he wrote.

There is also Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. They are touched on throughout the video game. Playing them while enjoying the game adds an extra immersion factor into the Ancient Greek World.

And so the scene is set : https://youtu.be/Y_Py-WazX-g
